If you are selected for employment with the City of Newton, you agree to participate in the appropriate examinations, determined by the position, which would include pre-employment physical examination and drug screening, and could include polygraph, psychological, and physical endurance examinations as well. These examinations will be paid for entirely by the City of Newton.

Benefits:

The City of Newton provides the following benefits for full-time (minimum 30 hours per week) employees.

Vacation Leave - Employees accrue vacation leave based on their number of years of service and the type of position they are in.

Sick Leave - Regular employees and PD-shift employees accrue 4 hours of sick leave bi-weekly. Fire/EMS employees accrue 6 hours of sick leave bi-weekly.

Holidays - The City provides 11 paid holidays.

Medical Insurance - Health insurance is provided through the City of Newton's self-funded UMR/SmithRx insurance plan and Dental Insurance is provided through Delta Dental of Kansas.

Retirement - The City provides Kansas Public Employer’s Retirement System (KPERS) and Kansas Police and Fire (KP&F) Retirement Programs.

Deferred Compensation - Optional retirement savings program is available to employees.

Wellness Program - A wellness program complete with annual health risk assessments, biometric screenings, and flu shots are available to employees. Full-time employees are also eligible for discounted memberships to the Newton Recreation Center and the YMCA.

Performance Pay Increases - Employees have an opportunity for a pay increase based on annual performance reviews.

Life Insurance - Life insurance in the amount of 150% of the employee’s annual salary is provided through KPERS.  As well as 20,000 AD&D through Advance Life Insurance at no cost to the employee.

Optional Group Life Insurance - Optional group life insurance is available to employees.

AFLAC Insurance - Additional optional insurance is available to employees, including cancer, accident, short-term disability, and other plans.

Employee Assistance Program (EAP) - The EAP provides confidential, professional consultation for assistance in resolving personal issues. This free service is available to full- and regular part-time employees beginning on their first day of employment. Employees may voluntarily seek the services of the EAP as needed.

Flexible Spending Accounts – Full time employees are eligible to participate in Medical and Dependent Care Spending Accounts.
