The City of Coffeyville, Kansas, is seeking candidates interested in serving as Electric Services Director.  This position is responsible to plan, direct, manage and oversee the activities and operation of the Electric Services Department including electric generation, distribution and transmission.  Additionally, this person will provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager while working with other City Departments, divisions and outside agencies.

Essential functions for this role include: management of the City’s participation in the operation of the Bulk Electric System; contract review and compliance with GRDA, SPP, purchased power, natural gas purchase and gas transportation agreements, electric transmission; NERC Compliance; department administration including development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies and priorities; preparation and administration of large, complex budget and extensive financial forecasting; analyzing and recommending electric rates and rate designs; evaluation of power costs and power cost adjustment; oversee and maintain GIS SCADA and AMI systems; calculation of service reliability indices; making recommendations and participating in labor negotiations; participate in professional group meetings, staying abreast of new trends in electric utilities, including participation and membership in state, regional and national associations or joint action agencies supporting municipal utilities. Knowledge of: electronic meter communications; electrical fault calculations and protective relays; Federal, State and Local laws, codes and regulations, including environmental regulations impacting electric utilities. Ability to: analyze problems, identify solutions and project consequences; communicate effectively both in writing and verbally; make sound decisions and think clearly in emergency situations; estimate time and materials for projects. Most work is in an office setting, however, may require working indoors or outdoors and near high voltage electricity.

Qualified candidates should hold a Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in Civil or Electrical Engineering or a related field and/or related work experience of 5+ years of increasingly responsible roles in an electric utility setting.

Salary range $110,000-$150,000 dependent upon qualifications. The City of Coffeyville also offers an excellent benefit package including: health insurance, retirement plan, vacation, holidays, sick pay and continuing education reimbursement.
