Police Sergeant - City of Maize

The Maize Police Department currently has one opening for a Night Sergeant. The working hours for this position are 2030 to 0700 hours.
The position is an hourly position with a salary between $27.02 to $38.18 per hour plus shift differential of $ .55 per hour. Full-time benefits are available for this position.

The applicant must be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Kansas or have the ability to be certified within 6 months. Applicants must have five (5) years of progressive law enforcement experience. It is preferred that applicants have at least one (1) year of supervisory experience.

POSITION SUMMARY
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the enforcement of federal, state, local laws, and City ordinances
- Protect the life and property of the citizens of Maize
- Make arrests, issue traffic citations, and perform traffic control duties
- Schedule and supervise street level operations to provide adequate service to the community
- Review case files
- Maintain specialized records and certification compliance
- Supervise community-policing activities in the absence of the Administrative Sergeant
- Testify in court when deemed necessary
- Assist other law enforcement agencies
- Mentor, teach, and assist officers
- Promote the goodwill of the City
- Perform employee performance evaluations
- Possess and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License
- Working knowledge of current supervisory methods used in law enforcement
- Ability to analyze situations quickly and effectively to determine a course of action
- Working knowledge of geography of the city and surrounding areas
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of highly sensitive information
- Ability to recommend implementation of Department Policies and Procedures
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing
- Ability to organize, schedule, assign, observe, and instruct personnel
- Ability to supervise and evaluate the performance of subordinates in both routine and emergency situations
- Ability to work a flexible schedule
- Ability to evaluate written and oral reports making necessary recommendations
- Ability to deal firmly, fairly, and courteously with the public and subordinates
- Skill in the use of firearms
- Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
- High school graduate or GED
- Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center Certification
- Minimum of five years of progressive law enforcement experience
- Preference given to those with supervisory experience
