Pay Level 5 - Non-exempt - $11.82-$19.38

 Position Summary

Reports to the Building Superintendent. This position involves the performance of varied duties in the general maintenance and housekeeping of the Sheriff’s Office Complex. The responsibilities of this position include basic maintenance and housekeeping duties relating to the cleaning, maintenance and care of buildings, fixtures and outside grounds.


Essential Functions

  •  Maintains and cleans floor surfaces, and office furniture
  • Collects and removes trash from designated areas of the facility
  • Performs and maintains outside grounds care
  • Cleans and maintains supplies in restrooms
  • Performs routine maintenance and minor repairs for physical plant operations including heating and cooling systems
  • Conducts regular checks and performs preventive maintenance on auxiliary power supplies.
  • Performs light vehicle maintenance.

  

Marginal Functions: Paints interior and/or exterior surfaces when directed

 

Position Requirements

Experience: Five or more years of experience in building and/or grounds maintenance or housekeeping.  

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Kansas Drivers License required.

Technical Skills: Knowledge of the methods, practices and tools used in general facility and grounds maintenance. Ability to operate limited heavy machinery and a variety of power and hand tools safely and efficiently. Ability to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing.

Problem Solving: Extensive problem solving exists in relation to the daily performance of office functions. Typical problems consist of determining the most efficient and cost effective options to complete repair of unexpected problems.

Decision-Making: The performance of maintenance and repair duties requires considerable judgment to utilize staff, equipment, time and materials efficiently. The work requires making many decisions concerning prioritizing work assignments and determining repair options.  

Supervision: Employee does not have supervisory responsibility.

Financial Accountability: Employee is accountable for the proper collecting and reporting of any valuables or lost property encountered in the performance of duties.

Personal Relations: Contact with county departments. Employee may have frequent contact with the general public, staff and inmates.

Working Conditions: Some hazardous working conditions may exist in this position relating to the operation of equipment and in the variety of maintenance and repair tasks performed. Adverse weather conditions when performing outside maintenance and grounds care is a factor in this position. Work hours may vary based upon facility needs

Physical Requirements: To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have fine and gross manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to one hundred (100) pounds occasionally and up to fifty (50) pounds frequently. Ability to walk, bend, stoop, kneel and climb ladders and/or stairs.
