Fiber Technician - City of Coffeyville

The City of Coffeyville is seeking a full-time Fiber Optic Technician to become an integral part of our team. This person will be responsible to install, test and trouble shoot Single Mode/Multi Mode (SM/MM) fiber optic cables in a Fiber to Home (FTTH) network. Essential functions include installation and maintenance of a FTTH network, ensuring fiber optic systems are working properly, installing, repairing, resolving ethernet (CAT5/CAT6) networks; rectifying fiber optic problem areas; splicing and terminating SM/MM fiber; performing fiber tests with Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR); all functions of splicing fiber optic cable from single fiber to large counts as well as performing ring cuts as needed; installation of demarcation enclosures, switches and other telecom equipment; surveying configuring and installing network hardware and software for both commercial and residential customers. Must be able to work from a ladder or bucket truck.
Ideal candidate will have understanding of fiber optic principles, components and installation techniques; be proficient in using fiber optic test equipment; have strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills; be able to read and interpret fiber optic drawings and maps; be passionate about delivering exceptional customer experiences, show attention to detail and have strong communication skills. This position requires working outside in weather including extreme heat, cold, rain, and snow. Visual acuity to distinguish color and distance is required. High school diploma or equivalent is also required. Driving record must meet the City's insurance requirements. Pre-employment physical, drug test, and background screening are required.
Wage range from $22.60-$31.25/hr. dependent upon experience and qualifications. This is a full-time position and includes an excellent benefits package including KPERS retirement, paid holidays, sick and vacation leave, as well as medical, dental and other insurance coverages. Applicants must be willing to meet the City of Coffeyville residency requirement to reside within a fifty mile radius of City Hall at 102 W. 7th St., Coffeyville, Kansas.
