40% Drinking Water System Operations
• Conduct daily and routine checks of the drinking water system including wells, water tower, and disinfection systems.
• Perform routine water meter reads, shut-offs, and installations.
• Perform daily and routine equipment maintenance.
• Assist with the repair of water main leaks.
• Accurately mark water infrastructure via utility locates.
• Respond to after-hours callouts.
• Recognize and report problems in the field.
60% Wastewater System Operations
• Perform daily and routine checks of the wastewater system including the wastewater plant and lift stations.
• Perform daily and routine equipment maintenance.
• Perform daily laboratory procedures and interpret results.
• Perform cleaning on the plant and associated areas.
• Assist with lift station and sewer line repair and maintenance.
• Accurately mark sewer infrastructure via utility locates
• Respond to after-hours call outs
• Recognize and report problems in the field.
Other duties as assigned may include general maintenance tasks involving grounds, streets, and other public works responsibilities.
Skills and Knowledge:
• Commitment to best safety practices in mind at all times
• Ability to record and maintain data accurately
• Ability to communicate both orally and in writing
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and related software
• Ability to read and interpret instruction via electronic work order system
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance
• Ability to possess and maintain a valid Kansas Driver’s License
• Promote the good will of the City, and a positive working culture
• Perform other tasks as assigned
• Must successfully complete a pre-employment background check, fingerprinting, and drug screening
Education:
• High School graduate or equivalent
Experience:
• None required, related experience preferred
Physical Requirements and Environmental Conditions:
• Manual labor including lifting and carrying heavy objects (up to 90 pounds), bending, kneeling, climbing, and the ability to operate department equipment is required daily in this position.
• Operate department-specific equipment daily.
• Occasional climbing in and out of manholes and other confined spaces.
• Regular exposure to adverse weather conditions, dangerous, and hazardous situations.
• Availability for on-call and overtime work as needed.
