Minimum education/experience required:

High School Diploma or GED equivalent, two years experience with computer programs, and some knowledge or experience in surveying and/or engineering.

Description:

This position involves the performance of varied field and office work relating to technical applications of legal descriptions, drafting, surveying, inspection, and record keeping. Must have a desire to learn and plan.


Essential Functions:

The Engineering Aide should, without immediate supervision:

  •  Research Courthouse as well as Engineering Department material for information to complete surveys, as assigned by the Engineering Manager.
  • See that all equipment required for survey completion is available and in proper working condition.
  • See that all traffic safety devices are being used at the survey site.
  • Collect sufficient field data to complete a set of plans.
  • Reduce field data to Plan and Profile sheets and/or Cross Sections by hand or on the computer.
  • Be able to put design on to the existing plans from the Engineering Manager’s preliminary design. (Math skills capable of figuring grades, curves, culvert sizing, and traversing.)
  • Help Township officials, surveyors, and the public with Right-of-Way information, section corner ties, bench marks, and surveys on file.
  • Be aware of current trends in both the survey field and computer as related to surveying and design.

  

Public Relations: The Foreman is responsible for training and monitoring staff with respect to their contact with the general public. All staff members are public servants and should conduct themselves as such. This does not imply that we much accept abuse, verbal or physical from the public or staff.

Marginal Functions: •Assist other departments as needed. •Cross-train personnel with other departments.
