Position Summary

Performs routine semi-skilled and skilled work in the construction and maintenance of the electric utility distribution system leading to the acquisition of journeyman skills. Work is performed under immediate supervision of Distribution Supervisor or Crew Leader.

 

Essential Functions

·         Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair work on low and high voltage distribution and transmission lines;

         Operates truck, loads wire, transformers, poles, etc.;

·         Climbs poles and attaches hardware;

·         Services line trucks;

·         Trim trees from lines;

·         Keeps line trucks supplied with tools and materials;

·         Carries out ground work.

 

Marginal Functions

·         Will be required to be on stand-by and/or call-back to work trouble calls;

·         Performs related tasks as required.

 

Position Requirements

Experience: None required

Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent. Graduation from a powerline school preferred.

Technical Skills: Some knowledge of electric line construction and maintenance and the hazards encountered. Ability and willingness to learn to set poles, string wire and do related work, perform manual labor, follow oral directions, observe safety rules and regulations, climb poles without fear of heights or electricity.

Problem Solving: Problem solving is important on trouble calls to trouble shoot and correct electrical problems. Should have ability to think on their own to get the job done safely and efficiently.

Decision Making: Decisions will follow safety procedures and instructions from supervisor.

Supervision: Direct supervision given by Distribution Supervisor or Crew Leader.

Accountability:   Per Job Description

Personal Relations:  Occasional contact with public. Must be able to work with close knit group and work as a team.

Working Conditions: Exposure to adverse weather conditions from ice and lightening storms.

Physical Requirements: Physical strength and stamina to perform manual work, climb poles, and work in adverse weather conditions.

Special Requirement: Possession or ability to obtain a valid State of Kansas CDL within six months of employment.

SALARY RANGE IS $15.95 TO $24.45 DOQ, EOE, DRUG-FREE WORKPLACE.
