Position Summary

 

Under the supervision of the County Clerk and/or Deputy County Clerk, the Clerk/Typist I position involves the performance of varied clerical and limited accounting duties in the County Clerk’s office. The varied responsibilities include fish and game licensing, recording of deeds and other general clerical duties. Work is subject to review by the County Clerk and/or Deputy County Clerk.

 

 

Essential Functions

 

  • Maintains fish and game licensing records and sells licenses to citizens;

  • Prepares and maintains cereal malt beverage and liquor licenses and files;

  • Records all deeds for the county assessment rolls;

  • Processes intangible tax returns;

  • Assembles information and prepares reports in accordance with state requirements;

  • Assists the public in the preparation of forms and statements;

  • Performs acts as a Notary Public;

  • Responds to public inquiries both in person and over the telephone;

  • Assists with election duties;

  • Participates in the general activities of the office when which assigned.

     

     

Marginal Functions

 

  • Performs other duties as deemed necessary or assigned;

  • Attends training seminars and classes as required by the County Clerk;

  • May be required to cross train in other suitable county departments.

     


Clerk/Typist I – County Clerk

Position Requirements

 

Experience: Less than one year of clerical experience is required. Employee is expected to have acquired the necessary information and skills between six months to one year in the position.

 

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalent.

 

Technical Skills: Strong analytical, documentation and organizational skills. Ability to deal tactfully with other persons and to communicate effectively and clearly, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in using computer software applications to include word processing, spreadsheets and databases. Ability to efficiently operate typewriters, adding machines, computers, photocopiers and related office machines. Knowledge of business correspondence, filing, typing and clerical procedures.

 

Problem Solving: Limited problem solving exists. Typical problems involve handling inquiries from the public.

 

Decision-Making: Limited decision making responsibilities. Tasks assigned are in accordance with standard procedures.

 

Supervision:   Limited direct supervision provided relating to daily job functions. Work performance is reviewed for general procedures and accuracy. Employee does not have supervisory responsibilities over subordinate personnel.

 

Financial Accountability: Employee is accountable for proper recording and collection of license/permit and other fees.

 

Personal Relations: Occasional contact with county departments and continual contact with the general public.

 

Working Conditions: Adverse working conditions generally do not exist in this position. Work hours are generally 8:00AM to 5:00PM with some overtime required.

 

Physical Requirements: To perform the duties of this job, the employee must have fine and gross manual dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, color vision and depth perception. Ability to sit and stand for longs periods of time. Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds; bend, stoop and kneel.
