ARKALON PARK CARE TAKER

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS:

           

The fundamental reason this classification exists is to direct and manage the operations of the Camp Host for Arkalon Park. The Camp Host maintains the Arkalon Park facility during the season beginning April 1 through October 15 annually. The Camp Host is a visible presence in the campground and around the ponds in the facility. The Camp Host works under the general direction of the Building Director with latitude to exercise judgment and initiative on matters dealing with the public regarding Park rules and regulations.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

·         Ensure the main gate is unlocked daily at 7:00 a.m.

·         Ensure the main gate is locked daily at 10:00 p.m.

·         Ensure all individuals utilizing the Shelter have begun cleaning up by 9:00 p.m. in order to depart the facility by 9:30 p.m.

·         Perform evening rounds of the entire facility by 9:30 p.m. to make sure all individuals are out of the facility by 10:00 p.m. in order to close the gate at 10:00 p.m.   This includes all ponds and river areas where anglers fish as well as nature trails and campground area.

·         Ensure campground is kept green on a continual basis, which means non-stop watering may be necessary in cases of dry conditions, by rotating the sprinklers allowed by the water department throughout the campground.

·         Ensure the campground is mowed and trimmed and in good condition on a continual basis.

·         Ensure the roads are graded on a continual basis to maintain the roads throughout the facility.

·         Ensure maintenance of the Arkalon Park facility is performed by assisting the part-time City seasonal employee with operational maintenance of the acreage.

·         Issue camping permits as soon as the campers arrive with the understanding that no spots are reserved until paid for. Place the “paid” traffic cone in the appropriate campsite spot until such time as the renter has their RV or tent in place.

·         Collect the Shelter reservation form and payment for and put the reservation on the calendar to prevent duplication of reservations.

·         Provide a weekly deposit to the Building Director of all revenue collected for camping and shelter fees, with a breakdown of the nights paid for camping with electricity and without electricity as well as shelter reservations and any donations received. This would also include the pop revenue collected from the soda machine.

·         Good judgment should be used when dealing with individuals wanting to use the shelter when dealing with the collection of the user fee. The fee should be charged if electricity is to be used; or a group will be having a meal/party that will require cleanup. In the case of someone desiring to sit and have a drink or visit out of the sun in the shelter, then some latitude should be given to charging the user fee.

·         Ensure the men’s and women’s bathrooms are cleaned on a daily basis. This includes sterilization and removal of trash/debris from the facilities.

·         Ensure regular maintenance is performed on the operation of the toilets and showers and contact the Building Director when repairs are necessary.

·         Ensure the proper operational supplies are on hand to maintain the restrooms and shelter. This includes janitorial supplies, light bulbs, fuses, etc.

·         During holiday weekends, keep counts of vehicles going to the Ponds and Campground using traffic counters and also obtain an estimate on number of individuals using the campground facilities for picnics, etc.

·         Ensure the grills and fire rings located in the campground are properly maintained on a continual basis.

·         Maintain the trails throughout the facility.

·         Communicate with the part-time City employee to plan and perform special or large projects.

·         Assist the part-time City employee with the operational maintenance of the entire facility.

·         Ensure the fishing areas are patrolled throughout the day numerous times on a sporadic basis to handout the fishing rules (brochure) to anglers to make them aware of the regulations. The anglers will be more apt to follow the rules if they see your presence from time-to-time and you will also be aware of potential problems.

·         Contact the State Game Warden and/or Seward County Emergency Communications (Seward County Sheriff’s office) when conditions warrant enforcement by the appropriate authority

·         Ensure vehicles and equipment has an adequate supply of fuel.

·         Maintain a monthly log of fuel purchased for each vehicle and piece of equipment. The odometer reading is to be logged when filling up the vehicles and the equipment hours (if applicable) should be logged when filled with fuel.

·         Periodically check the level of the diesel tank to make sure there is an adequate supply of fuel at all times.

·         Ensure all vehicles and equipment is properly maintained in good condition. Repairs that are needed outside of the normal maintenance should be reported the City Clerk in order to make arrangements.  

·         Attend monthly Arkalon Council meetings.

·         During large events such as national holidays (Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, etc), ensure the traffic counters are operational and in place at the main gate – one leading toward the fishing ponds and the other toward the campground to get a count of vehicles entering the facility.

·         During the large events, obtain an estimate number of individuals in the campground that are holding events in the shelter or picnics.

·         The camp host must be available to address the public’s needs between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and Noon and from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

·         Your daily lunch/break is between 12:00 noon and 4:00 p.m. daily.   Usage of the City vehicle is prohibited during this time.

·         The usage of the City vehicle is permissible when you must come to town to bring in the weekly collections, obtain fuel for the vehicle and equipment, purchase or pick up supplies for the Park, equipment repair, etc. Unacceptable usage of the City vehicle includes going to lunch, shopping, personal appointments, etc. If you happen to pick up a meal or purchase some personal supplies on your way back to the Park, which is permissible on an occasional basis.

·         Obtain prior permission to make purchases exceed $200.

·         Performs other essential or marginal functions as assigned.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

·         Move objects of 50 pounds short distances.

·         Work in a variety of weather conditions and exposure to elements.
