Maintenance Worker III - Solid Waste - Harvey County

Under the direct supervision of the Solid Waste Director, this nonexempt position is responsible for manual and semi-skilled work operating equipment to separate recyclables or contaminants from the solid waste stream.
Responsible for the safety and efficient operation of equipment and safety of general public.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Use tools such as precision measuring instruments and electrical and electronic testing devices.
- Diagnose machine, equipment, infrastructure malfunctions.
- Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary.
- Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges.
- Drive and operate heavy equipment.
- Operate wheel loader, shovel loaders, dozer, and backhoe and other equipment to separate the waste stream into construction, metal, debris, brush, leaves, grass, recyclables, and contaminants.
- Load solid waste onto conveyors, hoppers, or trailers. Push and pack trash with backhoe.
- Direct unloading of solid waste at Transfer Station. Control public traffic and other operators passing near, in, or around work zones.
- Collect and sort household hazardous waste including latex, oil, and pesticides, opens cans and bulking paints.
- Mix finished compost, which includes grass and leaves, food waste, biosolids, grains, feed straw, sawdust, and any other compostable material and putting it into rows.
Required Education and/or Experience:
Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year-college or technical school; or one year to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) training
OSHA Hazwoper training
Driver’s license
