This position is primarily responsible for conducting wastewater plant operations and maintenance of facilities and equipment. This position requires a Class I or Class II Wastewater Operator’s certification from KDHE. The employee must demonstrate a general knowledge of wastewater systems and mechanical maintenance.

*Compensation is dependent on qualifications.

Additional Information

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF WORK
• Assist in daily checks of the treatment facility and equipment to achieve optimum treatment efficiency and permit compliance
• Assist in making treatment process adjustments
• Assist in performing routine maintenance of pumps and facilities
• Assist in collection system repairs and maintenance
• Performs other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
• Working knowledge of wastewater collection and treatment, and the ability to make repairs when required
• Ability to solve problems using a balance of technical competence, creativity and research
• Ability to occasionally work unsupervised, as well as interact with other departments and the general public in a professional manner

QUALIFICATIONS

OPERATOR I

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required
• Class B CDL and driving history that meets the requirements to be covered by the City’s insurance
• Minimum 1 years’ experience in wastewater field, preferred
• Class I Wastewater Operator’s certification from KDHE required
• Certification from a KDHE approved technical program in the wastewater treatment field, preferred

 

OPERATOR II

 • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
• Class B CDL and driving history that meets the requirements to be covered by the City’s insurance
• Minimum 1 years’ experience in wastewater field
• Class II Wastewater Operator’s certification from KDHE required
• Certification from a KDHE approved technical program in the wastewater treatment field preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
• Frequently involves heavy physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry or push heavy objects up to 60 lbs. from floor to shoulder and occasional overhead lift of 25 lbs. Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, shoveling, etc. required in conducting daily duties. This position involves outside work maintaining collection system around open trenches, construction equipment and occasionally vehicular traffic in all weather conditions. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required and may occasionally include the use of respirators or breathing apparatus.
