Under general supervision, provides varied and responsible legal secretarial office assistance for one or more attorneys. Regular contact with Court staff and other agencies in situations where tact and discretion are important. Ability to be assertive while maintaining professionalism, maintain confidentiality, and interact with a wide variety of people in a professional manner. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment, prioritize work appropriately, and meet critical deadlines. Daily attendance is imperative for work caseload. Computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, are a must.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Draft pleadings, briefs and other legal documents and correspondence from notes, brief instructions, dictated tapes or printed materials.
• Initiate case creation after charging decision has been made.
• File documents with the Court.
• File or arrange for the filing of legal briefs and other necessary paperwork with the Court of Appeals.
• Review finished materials for completeness, accuracy, format, compliance with policies and procedures, and appropriate language and grammar.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationship with those contacted in the course of the work.
• Organize own work, set priorities and meet critical deadlines.

Required Education and/or Experience: Associate's degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year-college or technical school; or two to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Current Kansas Notary Public or ability to obtain Notary Public certification.
Possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
