POLICE DETECTIVE

COMPENSATION

Hourly Pay Rate begins at $28.00 and can be increased based on years of experience. Regular merit increases occur.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants preferred for this position should have at least three years of law enforcement experience with an emphasis in investigative work to include criminal case preparation and organization.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Goddard Police Department is accepting applications to fill (1) Detective position. Under supervision of the Chief of Police and Police Lieutenant, the detective position consists of the overall organization of criminal cases for prosecution in local, state and federal court. The major responsibilities of this position include the following:

-         Conduct detailed investigations of criminal activities and other violations of local, federal, or state law.

-         Collect and disseminate information necessary for an arrest; interview suspects after fulfilling legal requirements.

-         Search for, apprehend, arrest, and complete booking process for suspects.

-         Prepare typed reports on all types of investigations including reports for surveillance, undercover operations, arrest of suspects, suspect interrogations, case initiations, case status, case closing, affidavits etc.

-         Prepare and maintain statistical records for daily and monthly reports.

-         Perform asset seizures and confiscates property, cash and other drug proceeds.

-         Conduct both moving and stationary surveillance, and monitoring of listening devices as required for investigations.

-         Attend the scenes of crimes and autopsies to search for, collect and preserve evidence

-         Provide court testimony on cases investigated; prepare affidavits and witness lists.

-         Perform background investigations for Police Department applicants.

-         Confer with the City Prosecutors and District Attorneys regarding cases and discuss facts to charge an individual with a specific crime.

-         Assist in the training of other department members in the various investigative techniques.

-         Attend training annually to retain certification.

 

RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT

Goddard Police Department members should live within a 30-minute drive to Goddard.
